Cost of Attendance - Marian College, School of Nursing
Cost of Attendance
The components of the cost of attendance (COA) are the same for all federal financial aid programs, as specified in the law. However, in the case of programs of study or enrollment periods that are less than or greater than the School's academic year, the cost for purposes of loans differs from the cost of the Pell Grant Program.
Pell costs are always prorated to the costs for a full-time student for a full academic year, but the cost of attendance for the other programs is based on the student's actual cost for the period for which need is being analyzed.
A student's cost of attendance, based on the annual budgets published by the California Student Aid Commission, is generally the sum of the following:
- Tuition and Fees
- Books, Supplies, Transportation, Miscellaneous Personal Expenses
- Room and Board
- Cost of Dependent Care
- Expenses Related to Student's Disability - includes special services, personal assistance, transportation, equipment, and supplies.
- Loan Fees
Expected Family Contribution
The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is a measure of how much the student and his or her family can be expected to contribute to the cost of the student's education. All data used to calculate the EFC come from the information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Central Processing Center of the U.S. Department of Education analyzes the information from the FAFSA and calculates the EFC. The EFC formula also takes into account the family's expenses relative to the number of persons in the household and how many of them will be attending college during the award year.
